What The Funk
What it is! We’re a community of funksters that stretches across Northern California and beyond. Come on in and get funky!
Funk music has a rich history of promoting cultural connection and creative expression as well as social consciousness and artistic integrity. Inspired to celebrate and explore this legacy, we founded a nonprofit called Down To Funk Fund in December, 2025 for the purpose of producing Down To Funk Festival. Both are focused on nurturing the history, culture and community of feel-good-do-good funk music so those of us who love it have more places to call home. Can you dig it?
The first annual Down To Funk Festival will debut August 14-16, 2026 at YMCA Camp Jones Gulch in La Honda, California.
Featured at this groovy adult-friendly summer camp gathering of funk-lovers will be:
Local, regional and national bands performing intermittently on two stages under a canopy of old redwood trees
Two blowout late night shows
Ample space for camping
Communal meals in a festive dining hall
Plenty of peaceful spaces to chill
Brass marching band
Burlesque dancers
Available upgrades (e.g. cabins with bunkbeds and bathrooms and preferred parking)
Are you inspired to promote cultural connection, creative expression, social consciousness and artistic integrity through the communal celebration of funk music and its legacy? Join us as a Founding Funkster and help us raise $40,000 to power the feel-good-do-good production of Down To Funk Festival!
