Down to Funk Artists

Ten Foot Tiger

  • Since its inception at the “For The Funk Of It” music festival, Ten Foot Tiger has adapted and evolved into one of Sacramento’s most unique bands. With a sound beyond traditional categories, they’ve found themselves absorbed into the jam-band scene. Although, they stand with one foot well outside that realm with their catchy indie-pop like tunes. Their poignant and provocative songs as well as powerful grooves and improvisations stem from so many genres there’s something for all musical tastes. The trio is composed of frontman and guitarist Dan Green, bassist Mike Palmer and drummer Billy Thompson, whose chemistry together creates a unique experience every time they take the stage. It's undeniable that their raw and exhilarating live performances make Ten Foot Tiger a must see for any music lover.

Drawing from a variety of influences, the California-bred band explores genres utilizing colorful harmonies, spicy, catchy melodies, and extensive improvisation. The psychedelic atmosphere creates an oasis for listening, dancing and feeling welcome.

Described as “The essence of heart centered soul, casting psychedelic spells. Elevated musicianship is the common denominator of this five-piece unit with the mandolin playing and intoxicating vocal presence of Tatiana Peña at the center of it all.” (The Crazy Horse)

Boca do Rio

  • Boca do Rio started as a bossa nova trio in 1999 bringing the Brazilian swing to jazz clubs and live music lounges across the Bay Area. Originally hailing from the San Francisco Mission, Boca do Rio is a Brazilian-American samba-funk explosion. Born of the mixing of waters of Brazil and the San Francisco Bay, Boca do Rio has created psychedelic samba – music that developed through the rhythm of living and working between the Americas. After a decade performing all original material during the heyday of San Francisco’s live music scene, Boca do Rio has evolved into a multi-layered electro-funk party boat with a sound that is fluid and edgy, adaptable and free.

Boca do Rio started flowing when Kevin Welch from Vivendo de Pao  and Alex Calatayud from Entre Nos formed a musical partnership in the late nineties that would redefine Brazilian music in the Bay Area. The electro-whiz kid, Jacob Aginsky, soon joined the group adding a mystical element.

Tori Roze & the Hot Mess

  • Roze is a key artist in conveying the emotional intent behind a song. “Hearing Tori Roze’s sultry voice for the first time is like learning that Santa Claus isn’t real: it absolutely breaks your heart. Roze seduces you with her Erykah Badu-esque flair, and just when you think she can’t be any smoother, she claws her way into your ears with her rocking roars” (San Diego City Beat). The Hot Mess, comprised of five exceptional “pocket” players nailing unexpected original arrangements that will “blow your top,” leaves you reeling with toe-tapping excitement.  Instrumentation: guitar (Johnny Alexander), bass (Harley Magsino), trombone/keys (Jordan Morita), flute/backup vocals (Lee Clark a.k.a. Tori’s mom), vocals/trumpet/hand percussion (Tori Roze), and drums (Rashaad Graham). Funky-Jazzy-Neo-Soul = strange beautiful music. The name says it all: The Hot Mess – a motley crew of incredible musical technicians. Do not expect for their music to be predictable or run-of-the-mill – this band is audibly unique. Musically likened to Chicago with a slap of Amy Winehouse + Janis Joplin-style vocals; these guys have got the spicy recipe for eargasmic pleasure.

Second Hand Funk

  • Second Hand Funk serves up classic funk and soul in the vein of James Brown, Sly & the Family Stone, Parliament Funkadelic and beyond.

Featuring top musicians from around the Bay, they bring an upbeat energy to turn any event into a community dance party.

Trianna Feruza & The Heavy Hitters

  • Fronted by powerhouse vocalist and songwriter Trianna Feruza, Trianna Feruza & the Heavy Hitters are a 4-piece Neo-Soul/Indie-Funk band rooted in Santa Cruz, CA. Blending deep-pocket grooves, rich R&B soul, and fearless lyrical storytelling, their sound has been described as “No Doubt meets Anderson Paak. jammin’ at a Sly and the Family Stone party.”
